AECP: Level 2 Challenge Project

Hello!

Today I am sharing my final project for my Level 2 Altenew certification. The challenge was to create a 3D home decor project with a matching card or tag.

I created this folded book art decor piece.

Here is the matching birthday card.

I've admired folded book art for awhile and a couple of boxes of old books my husband brought home and this challenge was the perfect time to try it out. I knew I wanted to create a sort of book "sculpture" so an afternoon on Pinterest helped me find a fairly easy fold.

I stamped these Persian Motif flowers in embossing ink on a piece of blue patterned paper from the Altenew Our Family scrapbook paper and heat embossed in gold embossing powder. 

They were then coloured with Altenew Artist Markers in B204, 227, 313 and G554, 702 and 715. Although the paper is not specifically formulated for colouring with alcohol markers, it held up quite nicely.

The florals were cut with the matching die and I also cut 3 pieces of white card stock for flower and stacked them on top of each with the coloured image on the top. 

I added more dimension by using my flower shaping tools to curve selected areas and then adhering to the book page with foam adhesive. 

The butterflies were stamped on water colour paper and heat embossed with Altenew Rose Gold embossing powder with the Painted Butterflies stamp set. 

They were then watercolored with Altenew Crisp Dye Ink in Frosty Pink for the pink butterfly and Buttercream and Warm Sunshine for the yellow butterfly. I also mixed in a little Altenew Iridescent spray.

I layered the butterflies over 2 stacked layers of card stock, this time adhering foam tape in between the layers on the body of the butterfly only. The wings were then curved with my flower shaping tool to add additional dimension. They were then adhered to the page with foam adhesive.

Flowers were made using the large flower die in the Whimsical Flowers set and die cutting multiple times. 6 were misted with Altenew Iridescent Shimmer Ink spray, I picked up the left over ink used to watercolour the butterflies with the remaining book page floral die cuts, then crumpled and let dry. The flowers consist of 3 layers of the book page die cuts stacked on top of each other and adhered with liquid glue. The flower centres were embellished with a Studio Katia clear drop, black onyx crystal, a fussy cut Altenew Floral Flurries (washi tape) flower and a Pretty Pink Posh crystal.

The Altenew Floral Flurries washi tape is packed full of lovely florals and they were sized perfectly for this book art project. I adhered the tape to a piece of white card stock and then fussy cut all the images. 

Some of the florals were accented with a Studio Katia onyx crystal, others were attached to the pages with dimensional foam adhesive. A pair of stamped tulips from the Altenew Tulip stamp set and a large fussy cut Floral Flurries bloom are accented with Wink of Stella glitter pen and tucked into the top of the book.

The card is also embellished with Pretty Pink Posh confetti sequins. Sentiment is from the Birthday Greetings stamp set.

Beautiful Details

Hello!

I have another card to share for the Altenew Certification program. This card is for the Beautiful Details class. I've been wanting to practice my pencil colouring and Lesson 6 was the perfect excuse to spend some time colouring 😊.

Probably the most important thing I learned in this class was to take my time and be patient when colouring.

A light hand is also important and practice, practice, practice! I coloured 15 flowers to get these 5 I was somewhat happy with😉.

AECP: Magical Marker Techniques

Hi Everyone!

Thanks so much for stopping in and taking a look at this project. These Altenew classes are LOADED with techniques and ideas, it's hard to pick just one to post.

As I have recently purchased a few Altenew stencils , the lesson on markers and stencils in the  Magical Marker Techniques class was the one I wanted to work on. This is the card I created:

I placed my Altenew Cube Builder stencil on Neenah 110lb card stock and traced the stencil with my Altenew Jet Black Artist marker. I then colored in the shape with the G702 Frayed Leaf marker and edged the interior with G715 Forest Glade and, in a few places, G554 Evergreen.

Once the coloring was completed, I die cut the word HI using the Altenew Caps Bold Alpha, the word was also die cut from black card stock. I then sandwiched the black card stock and marker die cut words with foam tape.

I added the sentiments with the Altenew Thinking of You stamp set, stamped with Versafine Onyx Black and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

I love how this card turned out! These classes are fantastic, thanks for taking a look!

Colour Your Day!

I've had a busy last few weeks with back to back scrapbooking/papercrafting events. If you haven't checked out the Scrap Shotz blog, a local online store, click HERE to take a look; I design for the store and help out at the local events so you can see some of the other projects I created for them :).

I have another project to share as I work towards my Altenew Level 2 Educator Certification. This card was inspired by Lesson 1 of the Colour Your Day class. 

I picked up this Altenew Build A Flower Hibiscus stamp & die set from Scrap Shotz at the recent Scrapbooks and Cards Today event in Calgary. This set is GORGEOUS with 5 stamp layers in the flower!   I pulled out all my blue Altenew Inks and it was pretty cool to see how some were warm blues and others cool blues. These inks are the Glacier Caves Oval set and as the stamp set has 5 layers I double stamped the lightest shade, Arctic Frost for the 2nd layer to have 5 ink colours to use with the stamp layers.

The background was inked with the Altenew Art Deco stencil and Arctic Frost & Persian Blue inks.

The stems were stamped with Altenew Sunkissed and Firebrick ink.

Leaves were stamped with the Altenew Tropical Forest collection and all the images were die cut with the coordinating die.

Lastly, a sentiment from the Wild Hibiscus stamp set was stamped in Altenew Sapphire ink, the card panel matted on Altenew Cherry wood paper and then embellished with Pretty Pink Posh Sea Glass gems.

I will gift this card to my mom for Mother's Day, I think she'll love it!

Creative Watercolor Media: AECP Project

Hi All!

I have a card to share from the Altenew Academy class, Creative Watercolor Media. I learned something from every lesson in this class, it was hard to narrow down what to post! This Mega Succulent stamp and the watercoloring with a  re-inker technique are a match made in heaven! I used a Distress Ink Re-Inker in Wilted Violet as I don't any Altenew reinkers...yet😁. 

I began by stamping the image with my Misti tool in embossing ink, sprinkled with gold embossing powder and then heat set on water color card stock. Working a section at a time, I first painted clean water and then began painting with Wilted Violet Distress Ink.

I don't have as much white space as the lesson sample had but that's something I will work on with practice :).

After the panel dried, I spritzed it with Altenew Iridescent Shimmery spray. The final step was to heat emboss the sentiment from the Wild Hibiscus stamp set in gold embossing powder and then glue to the card panel. A few Pretty Pink Posh sequins add some shine to the panel which was adhered to a 4.25" x 5.5" notecard.

Polychromatic AECP Project

I actually have 2 projects to share from the 6th class I have completed to reach my Altenew Level 2 certification.

I as learning so much from these classes I wish I had more hours in the day to work on them!

The Polychromatic class is about colours, from brights to pastels and different methods of using them together. There are a few techniques I still want to try but I want to share a couple of cards I already completed.

The first is a shameless knock off of instructor, Nina-Marie Trapani's card...it's so eye catching I had to replicate it myself!

Gorgeous isn't it? I added the white details with a white pen, die cut the word from the Altenew Halftone Everything die and of course stamped the balloons with the Birthday Greetings stamp and Altenew Crisp Dye ink.

I die cut the word from a double sided foam sheet but had a bit of trouble lining up the word perfectly. To cover the adhesive showing I spread Glitter Ritz gold glitter over the adhesive and burnished it with my finger.

It adds some nice sparkle!

This next card uses the Camellia Build a Flower set and the lesson on Faux Handwatercoloring.

I inked the stamp with a Zig Clean Colour marker in yellow, spritzed with water and stamped the yellow flower. After cleaning off the stamp and allowing the image dry I inked only the centre portion in a deeper colour for the flower centre. I stamped the leaves in the same manner beginning with the lighter green and then inking the leaf detail stamp in a darker green.

The sentiment was stamped in black Versafine ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. A few Nuvo Crystal drops in Blue Lagoon complete the card.

Growth, Natural and Soothing...

I have another AECP project to share with you from the Altenew In the Mood For Color class. 

I was inspired by 2 different lessons, green and orange along with the technique to create a water-colour look with Distress ink and solid image stamps.

I am first sharing my green card, greens have a soothing, natural and growth feel. 

I stamped leaves from the Wings of Hope stamp set with Distress Ink in Crushed Olive, Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint and Forest Moss.

I then softened the stamped images by applying water with a water brush as Distress Inks react with water.

Next I applied Distress Ink in Cracked Pistachio all over the stamped panel.

I inked an off cut of water-colour paper with Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink and die cut "everything" with the halftone everything word die.  I also cut 2 more words from white card stock and then stacked them on top of each other to create dimension.

I then stamped the rest of the sentiment in black Versamark Ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. A few Studio Katia Majestic Confetti sequins add some sparkle to this card.

Most Favorite Card Technique!

Today I am sharing a couple of cards I created for the Altenew Impressive Heat Embossing class. I so LOVE heat embossing, there is something so exciting and satisfying watching embossing powder melt. I generally only heat emboss on my Christmas cards so this class opened up soooo many options for heat embossing all year round!

This first card was inspired by the lesson on heat embossing for a resist effect.

{supplies: Altenew Pattern Play Circle stamp; Versamark Ink, Ranger Clear Embossing powder, Water-colour paper; Daniel Smith water-colour Duochrome Oceanic, Cobalt Teal Blue, Pthalo Blue Green Shade; Kuretake Gansai water-colours}

To begin, I applied anti-static powder to a 5.5" x 4.25" piece of water colour paper.

I then used my Misti to stamp the Altenew Pattern Play Circle background stamp with Versamark ink. I applied ink and stamped a couple of times to ensure I had good ink coverage, covered with clear embossing powder and heat set.

The image looks like it was embossed with white embossing powder because the paper is a white.

I coated the paper with water and then began applying watercolour with the darkest ink and working my way outwards with the lightest blue-green shade of the Daniel Smith watercolours. I went back and darkened up all the ink shades with similar colours of Kuretake Gansai watercolours.

Once the paper had dried, I die cut the paper with an Elizabeth Crafts stitched rectangle die and layered it over dark silver glitter card stock also die cut with an Elizabeth crafts stitched rectangle die from the same set.

I stamped 'Missing You' in Versamark ink and heat set with Altenew Platinum Crisp Embossing Powder, the sentiment is from the Pattern Play set.

I completed the card with a smattering of Studio Katia Ocean Waves crystals.

Another lesson in this class focuses on ombre heat embossing which I have never attempted before. One of the cool things about this is that one of the best ways to showcase it is by using the solid images in layering stamp sets. Here is how you can recreate something similar 😀

{supplies: Altenew Camelia Build a Flower stamp, Crisp embossing powder platinum, rose gold; Versamark Ink; Stampendous White embossing powder; Recollections Gold embossing powder; Imagine Crafts Gold spray}

To begin, prep the card stock with anti static powder and using a stamp positioner (I used a Misti), stamp the solid image from the Altenew Camelia Build a Flower stamp set with Versamark Ink. 

Stamp the image a couple of times to ensure you have very good ink coverage for the embossing powder. Starting with the lightest colour, sprinkle a portion of the image with white, followed by platinum, then rose gold. Make sure to tap your paper firmly to ensure all loose powder does not adhere where you don't want it.

Heat set the powder with your heating tool, let cool and then prep for the outline embossing with an anti-static tool. Stamp the camellia outline stamp with Versamark ink, cover image with gold embossing powder and heat set.

To complete the card, gold emboss a sentiment from the set in the lower left corner, then embellish with drops of Imagine crafts gold spray.

Beyond Basic...

...Backgrounds!

Hello and thanks for stopping in! Today I am sharing a card inspired by the Altenew class Beyond Basic Backgrounds, specifically the lesson on Foiling Stamped images without a Laminator.

I do own a laminator but I've heard about this technique and was excited to give it a try.

{Supplies-Altenew Winter Rose stamp, Heartbeat Crisp Dye Ink, Forest Glades Crisp Dye Ink, Label Love stamp; Versamark Ink; Ranger Sticky Embossing Ink; Heidi Swapp Minc Foil gold and mint}

I began by prepping a 5.5" by 4.25" piece of Neenah card stock with anti static powder-my Stampin' Up embossing buddy I've had for eons ;). Next I inked the outline stamp from the Winter Rose stamp set with Versamark ink and randomly stamped around the card stock. I sprinkled Ranger Sticky Embossing Powder and heat set. 

I then placed mint foil over the entire panel and burnished with my fingers. You can see from the photo above I got so-so results. I re-heated the embossed portions and placed gold foil over top, again burnishing the foil. 

You can see from the above photo I didn't get the best coverage from the foil this is what I would next time I use this technique:

1. Use a stamp positioning tool to stamp each image 2-3 times to ensure you have lots of ink for the embossing powder to adhere to.

2. Once you've completed all the stamping, hit the images with a bit of heat before attempting to add the foil.

3. Run the card stock panel with the foil placed on top through an embossing machine. You'll have to add extra card stock "shims" between the panel and top and bottom plates to increase the pressure. This will also help adhere the foil to the sticky embossing powder.

I stamped the base stamp from the Winter Rose set in Heartbeat Altenew Crisp Dye Ink and the leaves in Forest Glade Ink. I then used one of the detail stamps for the rose and leaves, following the same process as the card base. The flower is foiled in gold while the leaf is foiled in mint. 

The left side of the card front is edged with half inch double sided tape to which mint foil is adhered.

A sentiment from the Altenew Label Love set completes the card.
