Altenew Educators "Anything But A Card" Blog Hop and Linky Party + Giveaway

Hello Friends and Welcome to another Altenew Educators Blog Hop!

You should have arrived from Penny Pynnonen 's blog and if you get lost at anytime along the hop or would like to go to the beginning, you can head back to Altenew by clicking the preceding link.

This post contains affiliate links, shopping through these are at no extra cost to you and helps support this blog to offer inspiration to you :). I appreciate and thank you for your support!

So, so many options for projects for this hop so I went back to my crafty "roots" as a scrapbooker for this 'Anything But A Card' project:

A sketch is a great starting point for a layout and I used this sketch from Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, rotating it for the layout:

I inked the upper left side of a white card stock base with the Feathered Leaves stencil, Shadow Creek and Mountain Pine Crisp Dye inks. After inking the stencil I spattered the paper with Altenew Watercolor Brushmarkers in Purple Wine, Mango Smoothie and Cotton Candy.

I then used a dinner plate to trace a half circle shape in two different places on the 12x12 Wildflower Fields paper from the Wildflower 12x 12 paper collection and hand cut the shapes. I adhered the pink half circle directly to the white card stock and then layered the green over top with foam adhesive lining the straight edge up with the edge of the white card stock.

After choosing my photos, and their arrangement, I added them with foam adhesive. I then played around with pieces from the Wildflower Pink Posy Ephemera and Wildflower Bitty Bits Ephemera, trying out different ones until I was happy with my choices. I attached them with foam adhesive, sometimes adding the foam just behind the bloom/buds and using liquid adhesive for the stems. I die cut a couple of leaves with the Mini Flower Cluster Layering Die Set from the Wildflower 6x6 Paper Pack

To finish off the layout I added Antique Gold sequins around the layout and on one of flower centers and also a hand drawn border with the 02 pen from the Altenew Fine Liner Pen Set.

Here's another look at the full layout :)

Do you keep a paper planner? I do off and on and like to add a few crafty touches to my monthly spread at a minimum so this hop theme was perfect!

I stamped these floral images in the corners with a mini-stamp set that I received as a gift from Altenew, you can probably find a similar mini-stamp in the Altenew store. I stamped the image in Permanent Crisp Black ink which is alcohol marker friendly and colored the blooms with R301 Rouge, Y204 Mango Smoothie for the center and G702 Frayed Leaf for the leaves.

I then added some pencil crayon colouring with my Prismacolor Pencils:

I hand wrote June, on a diamond die cut from the Fine Frames Diamond die that was trimmed down, with the brush marker from the Fine Liner Pen Set and backed the letters with a swipe of color with B201 Sea Glass Artist Marker. I also edged the die cut with the same Artist marker, backed it with Gold Mirror Card and then adhered with foam adhesive over the stamped and colored blooms.

I balanced the spread by adhering the gold mirror card stock fine frame in the bottom right of the facing page over the stamped and colored blooms.

I inked a few images from the Watercolor Bouquet stencil on the right and left side pages with Rouge ink along with adding a strip of the lightest color of washi tape from the Tea Party Washi tape bundle.

It didn't take long to add a few decorative touches to my monthly planner spread and this is another way to use your favorite Altenew supplies beyond cardmaking.

Here's a quick peek at all the projects I've created:

**Note: Affiliate links to all the Altenew products used are at the bottom of this post.**

Let's take a closer look at each project and see the many different ways you can use stencils.

Have you ever tried "dry embossing" with your stencils? I've embossed navy card stock with the Diamond Snowflake stencil, then applied white pigment ink over the raised areas. The white ink is applied with an ink blending tool on the card on the right hand side and direct to paper on the card on the left hand side.

I prefer applying the ink by running the ink pad directly over the embossing as it leaves a cleaner look. The snowflakes are made with scraps of card stock from my stash and the Altenew Layered Snowflake Die. The glitter card stock is from my stash as is the embellishment in the centre of the snowflake. Sentiment is from the Beautiful Inside stamp set.

I've used the same supplies for this second card just switching up the layout of the pieces and adding Nuvo Glitter drops in Silver Moondust to the snowflake centres.

I've got a quick little video showing you how to dry emboss with a stencil.

Altenew is well known for layering stamps, they also have wonderful layering stencils.

I've used the Watercolour Bouquet stencil inking the base image with Buttercream Crisp Dye ink. I've then added the detailed portion of the stencil by dotting through the stencil with Altenew Artist Markers. The sentiment is from the Wildflower Garden stamp set.

Stencils are great for adding texture to a project with pastes or paint.

For this project I used Decofoil transfer gel applied through the Feathered Leaves stencil then foiled with DecoFoil Emerald Watercolour foil and my Minc machine.  The tree is stamped with the Festive Foliage stamp in Altenew embossing ink, covered with gold embossing powder and heat set. The red heart is stamped with Heartbeat Crisp Dye ink, then stamped again with clear embossing ink and coated with Crystal Clear embossing powder and heat set. The tree is die cut with the coordination Festive Foliage die and inked with Mountain Pine ink, card front is inked with Sweet Leaf Crisp Dye.

The majority of Altenew stencils are 6x6 in size and while we use them mostly for cards you can also use them on a scrapbook layout.

Here I've applied the same Decofoil transfer gel through the Feathered Leaves stencil in random places on paper from the Altenew Our Family Scrapbook collection, covered with Emerald Watercolour Decofoil and again run through my Minc machine. I die cut leaves from different green card stocks and Altenew gold foil card stock with the Altenew Vase Fillers die set and tucked them under the photos. The title is composed of Live Your Dream puffy alpha stickers and green card stock die cut with the Fine Alphabet die.

Some of my most favourite Altenew stencils are the "builder" stencils and the very first Altenew stencil I purchased was the Cube builder.

Did you know you can combine two different stencils on one project?

After inking the cubes I applied Moonstone Glimmer Paste with the Warp Speed stencil. I have to apologize, I completely forgot to write down the ink colours I used, I believe they are Iceberg, Eastern Sky and Ultramarine but I'm not certain. Anyways, I die cut multiple hellos with the Circled Greetings: Hello Die, one from holographic card stock and two from white card stock then stacked them on top of each other and adhered to card front.

I've had this Heart Builder stencil for awhile but had not had the chance to use it so this was the perfect opportunity!

I've inked with Rouge, Crimson and a wee bit of Velvet (to add some shading). I kind of made a mistake when going back to line up the stencil to add iridescent glitter paste so once it was dry I went in with a gray pencil crayon and added shading to the top left of the paste.

The sentiment is die cut from grey and black card stock and I added the same iridescent glitter paste over the top.

We've now reached the final project and thank YOU for hanging in to this long post! Nothing fancy here, I've used the stencil in the traditional way.

The stencilling provides the perfect base for the Hibiscus 3D flower. I've applied Mango Smoothie ink through the Elegant Swirls stencil. I die cut the blue pieces from white card stock covered with each colour of washi tape in the Sea Shore washi tape set.

Thank you so much for stopping in! Don't forget to leave a comment here for a chance to win a $15 gift certificate to the Altenew store.

Here is the full hop list, your next stop on the hop is Amy Hill

Happy Crafting!

Zentangle for Cardmakers| New Altenew Class

Hello!
I am currently participating in the newest Altenew class, Zentangle for Cardmakers and it is a fantastic class! It is taught by Amber Davis a certified Altenew Educator and Zentangle teacher. The first lesson is about "aura" and here is my card:

I masked off the centre of a 4 /14" x 5 1/2" white card stock front and stamped the large bloom from the Altenew Peony Bouquet stamp  in Altenew Permanent Black Crisp ink. I then stamped the second layer of the floral in Altenew Turquoise Crisp Dye Ink. I then "tangled" the flower with a Pigma Micron .01 black pen, outlined the frame with a Pigma Micron .05 and a ruler and stamped a leaf in Altenew Sea Breeze crisp dye ink from the Wildflower Garden stamp set.

The panel was trimmed to size and then mounted on a black card stock base. Clear Studio Katia drops are adhered with liquid glue for the final embellishments.

So looking forward to the next lessons in the class! Thanks for stopping in!

AECP Level 3 Final Challenge| 2 for 1 Card Workshop

It felt like I took such a long time to get to the final level challenge but once the date was set it arrived quickly!

The Challenge
-teach a 2 hour class in a classroom/workshop setting
-detail pre-workshop planning and details (via email)
-deliver workshop to 4-10 students and share live with Altenew team members via internet
-share post workshop report, class projects and reflections on workshop

Pre-Planning

After choosing the class date, I began brainstorming ideas for the class itself and this was a big challenge because I had so very many ideas!

I wrote down a bunch of ideas keeping in mind the Altenew classes I have previously completed.

I created a few different cards and made my final choices for the class content based on my main goal.

The main goal was for students to use a variety of Altenew products and experience the versatility of the products as well.

Kits were prepared for each student with all basic supplies to make each card pre-cut, scored and one element pre-heat embossed.

Class Projects

The theme of the workshop was 2 for 1: Creating 2 cards from 1 stamp and/or technique.

Card #1- Happy Duo

An Altenew Mega Greetings die cut was used 2 ways, the negative portion as a card front and the word itself as the focus.

Card #2-Floral Duo

Two cards created by stamping the same layout in 2 different colour families and masking off a portion of the card front.

Card #3-Mom/Dad

We stamped and heat embossed one card panel, cut it apart and created a masculine and feminine card.

After a slow start, due to some technical difficulties setting up the live stream with Altenew, the students opened up their kits and crafted for 2 solid hours.
The students enjoyed using a variety of Altenew products, they were especially impressed with the inks.

We were not able to complete all the cards however here is a photo of the group with their cards:

Reflections

My students were all experienced crafters so they were an easy group to instruct.

It is definitely important to have multiple supplies especially if the projects are complicated.

Six cards were very ambitious, this group of experienced crafters were only able to complete 3-4 in the allotted time.

I will be much more mindful of the complexity of the project, skill level of the students and number of supplies required to complete each project in future workshops.

In closing, thank you Karla, Genny, Stacey, Virginia, Aimee and Erica for being my students.

Thank you Virginia, Nicole and Erum from Altenew for hanging out with us via Facebook.

Dearest Friend| One Layer Wonders AECP Project

Hello!
I am here to share a card inspired by the Altenew One-Layer Wonders class. All of the classes have been fabulous but I think this is my most favourite of them all!

I have seen so many lovely cards with pattern stamping I couldn't wait to give this lesson a go! I began by stamping the sentiment in Midnight Violet and Volcano Lake Crisp Ink, then adhered a 2"wide Post It tape mask over the stamped sentiment.

Next, I stamped the smaller floral image from the Altenew Dearest Friend stamp set in Midnight Violet Altenew Crisp Ink. The flowers are then coloured with Altenew Artist markers in R702 Lavender Fields and R705 Midnight Violet. Leaves are colored in G702 Frayed Leaf and G715 Forest Glades. I've added a shadow with WG01 Morning Frost on the edges of the sentiment block and sentiment itself.

It's hard to tell from the photo but I added some dots with a Wink of Stella Clear Glitter marker for a bit of shine that keeps this a one layer card.

Thanks for stopping in and taking a look!

Missing You| An AECP Project

Hello!

I am sharing my latest Altenew Educator Certification Project inspired by the Dynamic Die-Cutting class. So much to be inspired by in this class I had to choose between a couple of cards in deciding which to submit.

This card is based on the Partial Panelling Die cutting lesson. I love how easy it is to show off a select portion of a larger die. You can see that the focus is on the centre portion of the buildings in the Layered Cityscapes dies.

I die cut Layer A from white card stock, then inked with Distress Oxide ink in Pumice stone, the B layer was cut from glitter card stock.

I adhered both layers together with liquid glue, appling Nuvo Glimmer Paste in Moonstone through a starry stencil from my stash over navy card stock. Once the paste was dry, the cityscape layers were adhered over the navy card stock with liquid glue.

Lastly, I heat embossed 'Missing You' from the Thinking of You stamp set in silver embossing powder.

Thanks for stopping in and taking a look!

Tis' the Season

Hello!

I am sharing another AECP project today and it's inspired by the Tis' the Season class at Altenew Academy. It was hard to pick one lesson to base a card on but I was drawn to the colour combination and use of non-Christmas products in Lesson 3.

I chose to use the Altenew Calligraphy Mazes stencil and ink blend the background with Altenew Bamboo and Forest Glades ink with a touch of Frayed leaf.

Then I blended Altenew Pinkalicious, Rubellite and Razzleberry ink on a piece of white card stock.
Next I die cut the word JOY using the Altenew Caps Bold Alpha. After cutting, I taped the letters off with purple tape, applied Versmark embossing ink on the exposed area, then heat embossed with Altenew Platinum Crisp Embossing powder.

JOY was then adhered to the centre of the card with foam tape, sentiment from the Altenew Sketched Evergreen stamp set is heat embossed with Altenew Crisp White embossing powder and layered over joy with foam tape as well. Pretty Pink Posh sparkling clear confetti finish off the card.

Thanks for stopping by!

For the Love of Colour-AECP Project

Hello!

Sharing this card inspired by Lesson 5 of the Altenew Academy For the Love of Colour course. I LOVE glitter so making a card with it was a no brainer for me 😄.

{supplies: Altenew Sweetest Pea stamp set, Halftone Squares die, Artist Markers; Glitter Ritz Micro Fine Cool Highlight glitter; GinaK Amalgam Ink; Tim Holtz Metallic Card stock, 3D Botanical embossing folder; Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Confetti}

To create the glittered image first apply Sookwang or any double sided adhesive to white card stock. The size of card stock will be determined by the stamp image you choose.

Remove the backing, sprinkle transparent microfine glitter over the adhesive and burnish by rubbing with your finger over the adhesive. Tap off any excess glitter and also wipe with a Swiffer cloth to remove any glitter that does not burnish.

Next, stamp your image with black ink, I used GinaK amalgam ink, Altenew Permanent Black ink would work as well, both are copic friendly.

Now it's time to add colour, I used my Altenew Artist alcohol markers although the lesson suggests other types of markers. I have coloured with alcohol markers on glitter in the past but you must use a VERY LIGHT HAND to do so or the colour will feather outside the stamped image. You can see the sparkle in the image above.

Once the colouring was completed I taped 2 Halftone square dies equidistant from each other to create a square frame and cut the frame from silver metallic card stock. I then adhered the frame over the image with foam tape, cutting the glitter piece with scissors to fit behind the frame.

Half of the card stock base was embossed with the Tim Holtz 3d Botanical embossing folder, you can see the dimension it creates above. The framed image is then adhered to the card stock base, sentiment was stamped before adhering the image. Pretty Pink Posh sparkling clear confetti adds a little more shine to the card.

Here's one last look at the complete card:
